FAQ

How long does an appointment with Shampooches take?

A basic groom will take between one and two hours depending on the size and condition of your dog. Appointments are never less than an hour or more than two hours unless your dog has serious matting or needs extra TLC. Our goal is to make the experience pleasant and safe for your pet and have them groomed like a Rockstar or a Princess.

How often should I get my dog groomed with Shampooches?

For a healthy and happy dog, grooming should start when they are a puppy to get them used to the process at an early age.

We recommend having your dog groomed every 6-7 weeks to prevent matting and to keep their nails trimmed and their coat healthy.

Dogs with longer hair require more frequent visits, we recommend every 4-6 weeks to prevent matting.

What is Matting and why is it dangerous to my pet?

Matting refers to densely tangled clumps of fur in a pet's coat. If a coat is not properly and/or frequently brushed, loose and live hair become embedded in large masses. Sometimes “mats” can be combed out, but if left too long, it is impossible without seriously harming the animal.

Although matting in dogs is not uncommon, it normally occurs in dogs that have not been groomed for long periods of time. A heavily matted coat can trap moisture allowing mold, fungus or possibly bacteria to grow causing painful skin irritations. Removing a heavily matted coat can cause some pain and discomfort to an animal because it is very difficult to see warts, moles or skin folds that may be trapped in the mats risking nicks, cuts or abrasions.

Even with the most skilled professional groomer it is difficult not knowing what is under the matted coat. Even after successfully removing matting, some conditions may appear on the pet such as itchiness, skin redness, irritations from scratching or even failure of hair to grow back

How does Shampooches treat my heavily matted pet?

We always keep in mind the comfort of your dog first and foremost. We then do everything possible not to cause any pain or stress in the de-matting process.

If we feel, in our professional opinion, that your pet will suffer and incur added expense to you, we will recommend shaving the coat which will make your dog feel better and happier. The coat will grow back healthier and stronger and then grooming your dog every 4-6 weeks will maintain a healthy coat for years to come.

Should I have my dog’s coat shaved for the summer months?

A dog’s coat helps the body to regulate heat, providing insulation from the cold and protection from the sun. Coats that are shaved off, may grow back spotty and in some cases, not at all. If you decide to have your dog shaved back for the summer, applying sunscreen until the fur has grown back some will prevent your dog from getting sunburned.

Can I be in the van and watch my pet while you groom?

You are welcome to look inside the grooming van during your consultation or before your pet’s appointment. No one is permitted inside the van other than the professional groomers during your pet’s groom. We always love documenting your pet’s experience and then sharing it with you after we are finished.

Why are mobile dog grooming prices higher than a grooming salon?

Convenience! As professionals and parents…life is super busy! We know you love your pet and want the best for him but time does not always work on your side.

With Shampooches, you do not have to take time out of your busy schedule to make 4 trips back and forth to the groomers. You save gas and you do not have to wait for hours to pick your dog up. Your dog will not be subjected to a noisy salon and hours in a crate waiting and he will not be subjected to many different people grooming him.

We form a bond with your pooch and make for a happier spa day for your pet. It is a truly convenient and stress free service right at your doorstep and one less thing you need to worry about!

Do I need to supply water or electricity to groom my dog when you arrive?

The greatest thing about mobile grooming is our state-of-the-art van that is 100% self-contained. We carry our own water in a large 50 gal. holding tank. We provide our own water heating tank and we have a generator which delivers enough power to operate all of our appliances. We never need to ask a customer to hook up to their water supply or use their electricity. The van is also climate controlled for the comfort of your dog and the groomer.

What form of payments do you accept?

We accept cash, checks and credit cards
